DEMAND GROWS FOR MORE OFFIT KURMAN LABOR RELATIONS SEMINARS

Philadelphia — As a result of demand from local small and mid-size business owners, Offit Kurman has announced that it will continue to offer a series of topical labor relations seminars to area businesses.

Howard Kurman, head of Offit Kurman’s Labor Relations & Employment Law Department, said; “We presented a seminar on April 5 on the radicalization of the National Labor Relations Board and what businesses owners, operators, and supervisors must do in order to avoid being targeted by union organizers as well as what steps they need to take to avoid being targets of employee law suits. The responses to that seminar have been extensive and the demand for more such seminars strong; as a result, we have decided to add to the number of seminars we regularly offer on topical labor relations issues of concern to Philadelphia businesses. We feel that during this time of stagnant earnings and shrinking markets that local businesses need all the help that they can get not just to maintain current profitability, but more importantly to increase productivity by eliminating labor relations problems before they arise. Among the specific issues covered by the seminar, which was presented by Howard Kurman and Julius Steiner, were social media issues, blogging, confidentiality, recognizing new union organizing activity, what to do about it, NLRB rules that will have an impact on non-union companies, union election rules, how to deal with quickie elections, how to deal with the NLRB, and how to maneuver proactively in a regulatory environment that is increasingly litigious and employee-friendly.
